Created during a time of much thinking and reflection, this unique fine art floral print is an exploration of a bygone era where flowers were the unspoken voices of the women who arranged them. A monochromatic depiction of ranunculus blossoms, this thought-provoking piece is a numbered edition of 175 for each size: 8x10 inches, 16 x 20 inches, and 18 x 24 inches. Unframed and Giclée printed on museum quality, smooth archival fine art paper for longevity, the two larger sizes also come with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and are numbered, dated, and embossed with an artist seal.
Vintage in appearance with its black and white approach yet wonderfully lavish in form, this vase brimming with sweet ranunculus blooms was photographed to represent the Victorian years — where flower design became a much-loved art for the ladies. The perfect opportunity to express one’s feelings without speaking aloud, this floral study provided a similar creative outlet during the 2020 quarantine, when opportunities to share one’s feelings with family and friends were few and far between.

It was in the Victorian era that flower design became an art. Known as an incredibly restrictive period in women’s history, it is no surprise to me that the bouquets of the time were extravagantly lush, brimming with fruits and symbolism. Flowers were able to say what the women arranging them never could. If the Ranunculus blossom in this flower art print could whisper secrets, it would be “I have a crush on you”. With timeless class, these fairytale blooms held hopeful excitement for potential lovers.
In shooting this photo, I wanted to explore the world of a Victorian woman. When I was unable to leave the house during the quarantine chapter, I turned to art to bring the world inside. I would daydream of ways I could pick different blooms. I would arrange them to reflect the landscapes in my mind. I would notice details in the fragrant petals that I never had before.
This unique photo is a journey through flirtation, a comparison of worlds centuries apart. The classic vintage feel is offset by the winking bouquet - showing us the timelessness of a blushing romance.
